Remote control combined with alarming mechanisms has direct consequences on the expenses needed to be allocated for health sector. Wireless body area network (WBAN) as the core of ubiquitous medical healthcare infrastructure has proved its applicability if the idea and concept is further investigated and developed in novel way taken into account increasing amount of interference and security aspects. Research addresses directions and challenges of future WBANs, i.e., when dense WBAN networks (both in- and on-body) and other networks, such as machine-to-machine (M2M) or hospital equipment are connected to the same backbone, e.g., 5G network.
In Smart Grids ICT, we investigate and demonstrate a smarter electricity distribution system integrated with advanced ICT, such as 5G and peer-to-peer communications with other ICT technologies, regional markets and innovative business models.
It will employ Peer-to-Peer (P2P) approaches in communications and control to ensure the integration of demand side flexibility and the optimum operation of distributed energy resources and other resources within the network while maintaining second-to-second power balance and the quality and security of the supply. In this use case especially the low latency of 5G air interfaces and local EPC solutions are of particular interest.
